Middle School
Middle school students attend six full academic periods in Religion, Literature, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies every day. Students in seventh and eighth grade are tracked for pre-algebra and algebra classes, respectively.
Our rigorous academic program prepares our students well for entrance into high school. Each year, a strong percentage of our our seventh grade students are identified by Duke TIP’s Seventh Grade Talent Search as academically talented based on standardized test scores. These students are invited to take the SAT or the ACT during their seventh grade year, the results of which then gives them deeper insight into their academic abilities.
In addition to core academic subjects, middle school students attend specials blocks of PE, Music, Media, Technology, Spanish, and Art once a week.
In order to provide further enrichment opportunities for the middle school students, St. Catherine's offers the Exploratory Electives program. Classes within the Exploratory Electives program are designed and chosen to provide avenues for enrichment in the academics, fine arts, technology, health, and service so that students may further develop their many creative talents and interests. Two different sessions of Exploratory Electives are offered quarterly, so that students may have the opportunity to participate in up to eight different electives in one year.
