Flag Retirement & Flag Raising Ceremony

September 04, 2023
By

The community of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School gathered together to pay respects to our American flag, worn from her long years in service to our school. As a predominant symbol of our nation, she deserves great respect, and we retire her with honor and raise a new, special flag over our school with the help of St. Catherine’s Scouts BSA Troup 422.

At the request of Mr. Babyak, a grandfather at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, we received a beautiful new flag from Congressman Barry Loudermilk. Cobb County’s District 1 Commissioner Keli Gambrill introduced our new flag, which was raised on May 19, 2023, over the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. along with certificates of her authenticity, which will hang in the front entrance of the school.

We are so grateful to Commissioner Gambrill for joining us, to our SCS families involved in organizing this event, to our Scouts in acting as the Color Guard, and to the Scout leaders who educated our students on the United States Code and Flag Code guidelines for properly handling and honoring our flag.

We ask for the guidance and aid of the Holy Spirit that we may remember and honor the countless men and women who serve the colors now and who have served them throughout our nation’s history, those who helped our nation to grow, those who continue to do so, and all who protect the liberties we are blessed with in this land.
